The installation of this mechanism are optional one but if you would like to stick with features then its advised to go for VPS or Dedicated server plans

1) can i use eAccelerator on a shared host?
2) if my host DOESN'T offer Memcached or APC Alternative PHP Cache, is there anything i need to do in the config file? i already enabled "file system storage" during installation.
3) if my host DOES offer Memcached or APC Alternative PHP, then i need to go into the config file and change the setting with this: $C->CACHE_MECHANISM. is this correct? THANKS!! Great info!

@xiabolai I would like to answer your question as per the order you have requested

can i use eAccelerator on a shared host?

1)Yes,if you are hosting already installed eAccelerator core vesrion in their server and enabled with "PHP" extension then its possible. If your hosting company doesn't installed it before then you have two choices

You can request them to install
Or install by yourself ( You need root access to your server to do this)

2) No ,not all the hosting companies are installed the "Memcached or APC Alternative PHP Cache" by default .If its already installed, the sharetronix installer automatically detects it and provides choice in the wizard questionnaire. If the core file is not installed then what the use of changing just the configuration file?

3)The configuration file will be written automatically , if you time you want to change between this configuration after some time then you need to change this value in configuration file ( Not exactly known need some verify)
